After months of radio silence, Monster Hunter Outlanders has finally resurfaced and delivered what Hunters wanted: real gameplay overview. TiMi Studio has released several short overviews, showing how several classic weapons will play in the mobile open-world spin-off. These new footages highlight four fan-favorite weapons — Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Heavy Bowgun — all of which look close to their mainline counterparts, with additional bells and whistles.
As usual, Great Sword remains the choice for those who prefer dealing big damage — and satisfying hitstops. Just like in mainline games, Charge Slashes will be your main damage dealers. However, this time, Perfect Evades lets you maintain charge levels without sheathing, and follow-ups can even be chained mid-charge.
This mechanic strongly resembles Adept Style from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, something longtime Hunters should notice.
On the other hand, Long Sword and Dual Blades mostly stick close to their traditional identity: fast movement and combo. Mostly.
Long Sword still centers around building Spirit Gauge and carefully timing monster hits to trigger counterattacks. But this time, aside from the standard Helmbreaker finisher, the weapon also comes with a Teleport Slash stabbing attack from Monster Hunter Frontier.
The familiar Demon and Archdemon Mode keep Dual Blades combo pressure going. Both gameplay overviews emphasize constant movement and flowing combo chains, exactly the flashy playstyle Hunters expect.
Last but not least, for ranged hunters, there’s the Heavy Bowgun. Different Ammo types return, although it’s not clear if they’re mostly unlimited like in Monster Hunter Wilds or not. Two new mechanics also help Gunners to quickly counter. Perfect Guards instantly reload your Ammo and Perfect Evades enable follow-up attacks from dodges.
As seen in the gameplay overview, TiMi Studio has adapted Monster Hunter Outlanders control for smartphones. Classic moves are mapped to fixed buttons so follow-ups can trigger with a single tap. The team said they have revised the lock-on system, letting Hunters swipe the radial menu to target weak points more accurately. Feedback from the recent Closed Beta test and TGS 2025 demo also drives several changes, including:
- Monster behavior adjustment.
- Camera responsiveness and overall action improvements.
- UI layout optimizations.
- Weapon, system balance adjustments, as well as performance improvements that should mitigate overheating.
- Even more monsters, weapons, and Adventurers partners for post-launch.
TiMi Studio previously confirmed five weapons at launch — Bow, Dual Blades, Lance, Light Bowgun, and Long Sword — with more planned later. Seeing that Great Sword got its own gameplay showcase, no doubt the next batch of videos will highlight even more familiar arsenal. With weapon gameplay finally on the table, fans are now wondering whether Monster Hunter Outlanders is nearing its release date.
