10 Monsters We’d Love to See in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance

Many of us are counting down the days for the eventual release of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, which might still be longer than we think. However, while we wait for the now-confirmed expansion, it doesn’t hurt to dream about what we’d love to see in this expansion. For that reason, we’ve made a monster wishlist for Ascendance, which includes some of the creatures we think deserve a spot in Wilds.

1. Diablos

Let’s begin with one of our favorite monsters from Monster Hunter World. Yes, we know many have PTSD from it, but imagine seeing Diablos in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, it would be great, wouldn’t it? While we don’t know in which locale it would spawn, we’d love to see it in the Windward Plains getting into a fight with a few Balahara or trying to take on Rey Dau once in a while—it would be epic.

2. Legiana

This might be an odd choice, but the fact that we saw Legiana so much in Monster Hunter Stories 3 has made us wish for it to appear in Ascendance. Out of all the ice-related monsters we have in Wilds, we believe we need a flying wyvern capable of roaming around the Iceshard Cliffs or maybe even Wyveria if the weather allows it to live there.

3. Kirin

It’s been a while since we saw our beloved Kirin in a game, and we think it’s time for it to make an appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. Now, while it is an Elder Dragon and introducing it might be a bit challenging, we know that Capcom always finds a way to bring beloved monsters to the lore of an installment, and Kirin would certainly fit the lightning storms in the Windward Plains.

4. Barioth

This is another monster that appeared frequently in Monster Hunter Stories 3, in several variants, which led us to add it to our wishlist. There are a few options here, but it would be cool to get Barioth and its Sand variant, as both would fit the environments of Wilds perfectly. Also, we remember how this monster traumatized players a bit, so it is time to hunt it properly with our new skills, or “cart” while trying.

5. Brachydios

Many might hate fighting Brachydios, but despite that, it is still one of the most beloved monsters in the series that also deserves a new appearance. In terms of where it would fit better, we believe that the Oilwell Basin would be the best locale for our punching behemoth. We would also pay to see Brachydios go toe to toe against Ajarakan.

6. Deviljho

Among the many monsters that we were hoping to see in Monster Hunter Wilds at launch or during post-launch updates was Deviljho, and well, it isn’t here yet, but that could change with Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. We need the iconic Brute Wyvern to find its way to the Forbidden Lands already.

7. Rajang

While the Fanged Beast void was sort of filled by Congalala, we all remember just how challenging fighting against Rajang was. We have seen it a lot, we know, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t appear in Wilds. There should be someone to give Congalala a run for its money, and who better than one of the most challenging monsters in the roster?

8. Magnamalo

You know this was going to be part of the list since the beginning. Magnamalo became so iconic that many of us get excited as soon as we see it in whatever mainline or spin-off installment of the series. And well, now’s the time to bring it back in Wilds. All we ask is to make it as challenging as possible. Getting an Arch-Tempered version of this monster would be one of the greatest fights for all hunters out there, or an unclimbable wall. Time will tell.

9. Zinogre

Speaking of iconic creatures, Zinogre would also be excellent in either the Scarlet Forest of Windward Plains. While we know Rey Dau is THE lightning monster, we need more of that element, and one that doesn’t necessarily fly or go underwater. It would also be great to see some of Zinogre’s variants, which many have already experimented with in Stories 3. Seeing them in a main installment would be…wild (no pun intended).

10. Nergigante

And to wrap up our wishlist for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, you know we had to include the one and only, Nergigante. It is baffling how we didn’t get it for the base game, but we’re not losing hope. Nergigante is still, to this day, one of the most iconic and powerful monsters in the series, and if we’re going into a new land to face bigger foes, then this one deserves to appear again.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Capcom, but there’s no harm in speculating about which monsters could make the cut. Many of these creatures would fit naturally into the base game’s existing locales, while others seem perfectly suited to the new region teased in the expansion trailer. For now, all fans can do is wait and see what Capcom has planned for the final roster. If history is any indication, however, the studio has a strong track record of delivering standout expansions.
