Monster Hunter Wilds may have been struggling to expand and maintain the popularity the series gained from World. But after well-received Title Updates and performance tweaks, with major releases at hand, it seems Capcom has plenty of opportunities for a second wind. This optimism is shared by Japanese market analysts, who noted that the game should be able to bounce back from its 2025 slump.
Speaking with Japanese business media Nikkei during Tokyo Game Show 2026 (paywalled), UBS Securities analyst Yijia Zhai highlighted Monster Hunter Wilds as one of the games drawing significant investor attention. The reason? It’s all thanks to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release, according to her.
“From investors, there’s a high amount of attention towards Monster Hunter Wilds. So far, the game is only available on Sony Group’s home console PlayStation and PC. But starting in December 2026, it will also be playable on Nintendo’s main console, the Nintendo Switch 2,” said Zhai. “Major slowdown like in 2025 is unlikely to happen.”
As we all remember, Monster Hunter Wilds opened with a massive launch in February 2025. Capcom announced that it had sold 10 million copies within its first month, making it the company’s fastest-selling game ever at the time. However, that momentum quickly cooled down, with following sales falling short of its mind-blowing opening. President Haruhiro Tsujimoto publicly blamed the PS5 price ‘barrier’ as one of the reasons behind it.
She isn’t the only one expecting a turnaround, however. Soichiro Fukuda of Tokai Tokyo Intelligence Laboratory separately pointed to Monster Hunter Wilds‘ huge presence at the event. “Capcom’s exhibit shows a prominent display related to Monster Hunter Wilds(whose sales struggled to grow in 2025),” he noted. “Expectations for a comeback are huge.”
Aside from bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2, the company is also preparing the Ascendance expansion for next year. The DLC, set several years after the base game, is leaning hard into series nostalgia, with classic monsters such as Lao-Shan Lung returning to the hunt.
Whether the Switch 2 and DLC hype translate into another major increase in sales remains to be seen for now. But Capcom definitely has more than one shot at getting Wilds back on track.
