MH Wilds Coming To Switch 2 on December 4th With Local and Crossplay Support

Nintendo Switch 2 owners can soon join the hunt, as Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch on the platform on December 4, 2026. Better yet, handheld Hunters won’t be locked in their own little ecosystem, as the port will support both cross-platform and wireless local play.

Capcom also confirmed that the Switch 2 port will be released with all previously free Title Updates. Better yet, it will get the Ascendance DLC alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC later in 2027. That means, portable Hunters won’t have months of catching up to do, unlike World and Rise‘s ports. Preorders are said to be open on the Nintendo eShop on October 19.

Over on the YouTube trailer comments, however, fans were quick to poke fun at the announcement. “Nu Udra will literally set your house on fire.💀,” joked one user. “10 frames a second against savage omega about to be wild,” quipped another. But there are also others who hoped the company could pull this off, “Pls capcom let this be the most optimized version, it’d be hilarious.”

Still, it might not be as depressing as it sounds. Our recent Steam Deck testing found that Monster Hunter Wilds is in a much better state than it was around launch. Native performance generally hovered in the 23-28 FPS range, occasionally reaching 30 in less crowded spots. Frame generation could even help push it into the 40-50 FPS range.

That’s hardly flawless, but it’s a massive improvement over the game’s earlier performance on lower-end hardware — which consisted of blocky monsters or worse, a straight-up black screen.

Still, Switch 2 is a more closed platform than a PC, and Capcom should be able to optimize around it. After all, if we believe datamined information, the handheld version could be targeting up to 40 FPS at 1440p. Considering all that, there is at least some reason to believe this release could fare better. We’ll find out whether Capcom successfully ports Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2 on December 4.
