One of the best and most helpful systems in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is habitat restoration, which allows you to tailor several areas of the game to your liking. Besides each zone having its species, you can throw in a few more to hopefully get a dual-element Monstie, or even one with a mutation. Since getting a Monstie’s ecosystem to Rank S should be everyone’s priority, we’ve made a quick guide to show you the fastest way to achieve that in Monster Hunter Stories 3.
How To Quickly Raise an Ecosystem Rank to S
The game explains the process of raising a Monstie’s ecosystem rank to S in Monster Hunter Stories 3, but there are a few things it leaves out, such as getting dual-element Monsties and how mutations work.
First, you’ll need to focus on reaching the higher rank in an area, and for that, the best thing you can do is release as many Monsties as possible there. For example, if you want to get your Chatacabra to rank S, then just release a couple of them through Habitat Restoration. However, there’s one way to make the process much faster.
It seems that the higher the Monstie’s level, the more it will count toward a rank’s increase, meaning that a level 20 Chatacabra will raise the rank faster than a freshly-hatched one. This is quite useful to know, especially in late-game areas where it is extremely easy to level up Monsties just by getting into a quick fight or gathering materials.
How To Get Dual-Element Monsties

The next thing you can do through Habitat Restoration, and after your Monstie’s ecosystem reaches rank S, is get the elusive dual-element Monsties. The tutorial tells you that once you restore a Monstie’s ecosystem, there’s a chance you’ll get two elements in one, with the new element being dependent on the area. We noticed that this happened more often in Rank S habitats, by the way.
It is important to remember that egg colors won’t change for dual-element Monsties, meaning that you’ll have to hatch several until you get the Monstie you want. Also, it is unclear if every Monstie can obtain two elements, but we’ve already seen it happen with Tobi-Kadachi and Lagiacrus.
How To Obtain Mutated Monsties

Last but not least, we have Mutated Monsties, which are a bit different than dual-element ones. For starters, Monsties with mutations only happen if you rescue an endangered species. For instance, rescuing the Lagiacrus egg and raising this Monstie’s ecosystem to rank S will eventually unlock the Ivory Lagiacrus. We’ve also seen this happen twice during the tutorial, with Pink Rathian and Dreadqueen Rathian, so if you have access to several of these eggs, try to raise their rank in other ecosystems to see if you can trigger a few mutations.
