Fans have always dreamt of the addition of a new weapon in Monster Hunter‘s latest entry. It doesn’t help that Generations brought the Prowler Mode and Capcom added the Tonfa and Magnet Spike to the Frontier spin-off. Then, future titles took them all away. But now, Capcom is delivering something wild. In a stunning twist, Monster Hunter Wilds x Street Fighter collab basically has turned Akuma into an experience that plays like a brand-new weapon.
The Monster Hunter Wilds x Street Fighter 6 itself launches next week on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. As expected from a big crossover content, it includes new quests, gears, and premium DLCs. Nevertheless, as mentioned above, this time it even comes with a unique combat mechanics pulled straight from the popular fighting game.
By equipping the event’s Akuma full armor set or its layered variant, Hunters can perform his signature martial arts moves. From Gou Hadoken, Gou Shoryuken, and Drive Impact, a ‘parry’ system introduced in Street Fighter 6. And the best thing about it? All of the moves’ damage scales off your equipped weapon and have stun and Offset properties to boot!
While more details are still under wraps, Capcom has revealed a hint on how this all work:
- Once you’ve wear the Akuma sets, you’ll get special ‘item and gestures’ to perform the combos.
- The moves can be activated from the Item Bar.
- The Assisted Combo: Akuma item command lets you branch into various attacks. Including special moves like Gou Hadoken and Gou Shoryuken.
- This means, it plays similarly to Prowler skills and you can slot the item into Radial Menu for faster activation.
Community reactions have been explosive. Replying to the reveal trailer X post, @DigDiggyHole shouted, “ARE WE FINALLY GETTING AN UNARMED MOVESET!?” Another player, @Yorishiriamori, speculated and hoped, “Imagine if this is them testing stuff out because the dlc will bring actual new weapons 🤔”
Reddit is also buzzing. In their thread post, TheGMan-123 wrote, “AKUMA IS THE 15TH WEAPON!” Awilixsh, on the other hand, reminisced of the good old day of the classic PS2 where attack inputs used to use analog stick. “We are now going back to Monster Hunter 1 style of attack inputs but now using Radial.”
How to Unlock Akuma in Monster Hunter Wilds

To unlock the Akuma ‘weapon’ in Monster Hunter Wilds x Street Fighter collab, you need to complete the HR21 ‘Ultimate Strength’ Side Mission. Similar to unlocking Mizutsune, speak to Quinn, the Vespae Unit Handler, at the Oilwell Basin Base Camp to start the mission.
For more rewards, completing the additional Arena Quests: ‘Demonic Strength’ and ‘True Strength.’ Beating them will net you the adorable Blanka-Chan Palico set and Akuma-themed Hunter Profile cosmetics.
If you don’t mind spending a couple of bucks, here are the items you get by purchasing the premium DLC pack:
- Alma Outfits: Chun-Li and Cammy outfits.
- Pendant: Blanka-Chan Doll.
- Stickers: Street Fighter 6 Set.
- Gestures: Hadoken, Shoryuken, and Tatsumaki Senpu-kyaku.
- Note: Paid gestures also have attack properties.
While technically not the coveted 15th weapon, Akuma’s Assisted Combo item is so distinct from all other collaboration gear. Players are already hyping the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds x Street Fighter and treating Akuma like a fully-fledged weapon. Here’s hoping Prowler or actual weapon will be added in the next Monster Hunter game!
