One of the newest monsters in the Monster Hunter pantheon has found its way to Monster Hunter Stories 3, and we’re talking about Arkveld. Those who played Wilds might remember just how challenging the fight against this colossal creature was, and naturally, it is the same in Monster Hunter Stories 3. Since you need to beat this Wyvern to progress through the story, we’ve made a guide to help you take down this infamous monster.
Best Strategy for the Arkveld Encounter
Before you go into the encounter, there are a few things you need to do if you want to beat Arkveld fast in Monster Hunter Stories 3. In terms of what you should bring, we recommend the following:
- Odogaron Armor or any armor with high Dragon Resistance
- Any skill that increases the rate at which your Kinship gauge fills up
- Kora as your companion
- Any weapon that does Dragon damage
With all that, you should be ready to jump into the fight. It is important to remember that Arkveld is weak against Dragon attacks, but it will also hit you with that same element, hence our armor and weapon recommendations. As for Kora, she’s the most helpful party member due to her taunting capabilities, so she’s a must.
When the fight begins, you need to make it to the fifth turn. Don’t burn some of your skills here. Just make sure to heal Kora up and buff your defenses. If possible, get your Kinship gauge up. After the fifth turn, have Ratha use Savage Fireball, as this will make Arkveld topple. If your Kingship gauge is full, which should be at this point, it is time to unleash hell on the Monster.

From here on out, your only priority should be to stagger Arkveld. While in other parts the main focus is to go for the Monster’s Wyvernsoul gauge, ignore it here and focus on spamming Kinship attacks to stagger Arkveld. However, when the chainblades come out, focus on breaking them and return to our previous strategy.
The truth is, the fight is quite challenging, especially if you lack survivability. But if you focus on staggering this boss, it will truly feel like a walk in the park. In case your Ratha is going down quickly, also try to bring some Monsties that resist the Dragon element, as that will also help to make the fight go smoother.
