Weapon Tier List Explanations

S Tier: Long Sword and Heavy Bowgun
The Long Sword is, no doubt, the easiest weapon to recommend in Monster Hunter Outlanders. The intro tutorial even forced you to use it! Its fast attacks, powerful burst damage, and excellent elemental or status damage build-up make it effective against any monster. It’s also easy to learn, allowing even beginners to mash out consistent damage.
Meanwhile, the Heavy Bowgun offers massive damage with surprisingly straightforward gameplay. With the Perfect Dodging mechanic, positioning and avoiding attacks is now much easier than in traditional Monster Hunter games. Better yet, ammo management, one of the biggest hassles of using Bowguns, is simplified in Outlanders.
A Tier: Great Sword, Hammer, Dual Blades, and Bow
Like in the other games, here the Great Sword still boasts excellent damage potential. Nevertheless, while moves are faster this time, its slower charged attacks still require careful timing. Thankfully, Adventurers like Pyro and Freya offer movesets that may feel more mobile and forgiving than the Fated Adventurer’s standard moveset.
The Hammer is another straightforward weapon, offering powerful attacks and the ability to stun monsters. However, getting the most out of it requires consistently targeting monsters’ heads, while its relatively basic moveset might not appeal to everyone.
Dual Blades are similar to the Long Sword, offering rapid attacks and an aggressive playstyle. However, their overall damage potential is somewhat lower, and managing Stamina during Demon Mode adds another layer of complexity.
The Bow is another fast-hitting weapon that excels at dealing elemental and status damage, especially when using Piercing Shots. Its ranged attacks also make it easier to maintain offense while keeping a safe distance. However, Stamina management can quickly become a problem if you’re not paying attention, as constantly attacking and dodging can leave you vulnerable at the worst possible time.
B Tier: Charge Blade and Lance
The Charge Blade can deal impressive damage when played correctly, but mastering its mechanics takes time. That’s already considering Monster Hunter Outlanders‘ simplified controls. Keep in mind that Adventure Mode further limits access to its full moveset.
Lastly, the Lance is arguably one of the easiest weapons to use and learn. Its gameplay mostly revolves around stabbing monsters and blocking attacks with its shield. Unfortunately, despite being the writer’s main, its relatively low damage output and basic moveset make it less appealing compared to the other weapons. Not to mention that Power Guarding feels pretty finicky and inconsistent this time around.
That said, B Tier doesn’t mean these weapons are bad. This ranking simply favors weapons that deliver strong results with minimal effort. So Hunters who enjoy defensive play or more technical flowcharts may still find the Lance and Charge Blade rewarding and fun.
