Since Monster Hunter Generations, Hunters have been able to transmog their mismatched meta clown suits into something more fashionable. The feature hasn’t been left out of the mobile open-world spin-off either, as Layered Armor and Weapons are also available in Monster Hunter Outlanders. Still, getting these fashion pieces can be a bit complicated, especially if you don’t want to spend real money on them.
Monster Hunter Outlanders: How to Get Layered Armor and Weapons for Free

Unlike in some mainline games, Layered Armor and Weapons in Monster Hunter Outlanders aren’t simply craftable. Well, that’s somewhat expected from a mobile game with gacha mechanics. Thankfully, you don’t actually have to spend real money to play dress-up.
The game introduces the Style Crates system, which rewards random Layered equipment pieces. Clearing a Free Hunt for the first time rewards you with Style Crates corresponding to that particular monster. For example, beating Level I, II, and III Great Girros Free Hunts will then net you three Great Girros Style Crates. But that’s not the only Crate you want to keep your eyes on.
There’s also the Aesoland Style Crates that contain completely random Layered equipment pieces from the gear you’ve unlocked so far. These are pretty rare and usually drop from raising your Ecological Rank or through story missions. You can also get a special Adventurer Set Style Crate from the sixth-day login reward of the Adventurer’s Chronicles 7-Day Login bonus. As the name suggests, this crate contains Layered equipment from the game’s signature Adventurer set.
Style Crates come in two rarities, each with different rewards:
- Rare Style Crates: Only drop Layered Armor pieces.
- Epic Style Crates: Have a 30% chance of dropping a Layered Weapon from the corresponding monster’s set.
Thankfully, Rare Style Crates also feature a pity system. After opening four Rare Crates, you’ll receive an Epic upgrade, giving you a better chance of obtaining a Layered Weapon.
How to Get Layered Armor and Weapons Through Paid Shops

Aside from earning Layered pieces through gameplay — surprising absolutely no one — more cosmetics can also be purchased through the Shop menu.
The Tailor Exchange offers both Style Crates and exclusive Layered items, such as the Crimson Crest Banner Scarf. These can be purchased using Finery Coins.
Meanwhile, Adventurers’ exclusive Layered Armor and Weapons can be obtained through several premium methods. Including the Crimson Crest Coins premium currency, from cumulative top-up rewards, and the Wish system. The Wish system is basically a seasonal roulette featuring exclusive bonuses such as Featured Contracts and special cosmetics. These can include limited-time avatar frames, chat stickers, and, most importantly, specific Adventurers’ Layered Armor and Weapons.
What’s rather disappointing, though, is that Buddies‘ Layered Armor appears to be exclusive to premium purchases, at least for now. So while Hunters have several ways to collect Layered Armor without spending money, dressing up your furry companions might be a different story.
How to Change Layered Armor and Weapons in Monster Hunter Outlanders

You can change or disable Layered equipment for both the Fated Adventurer and other Adventurers through the Equipment menu. Simply select the Appearance button to view your available customization options.
There are two main appearance categories:
- Parts: Lets you equip individual Layered Armor pieces, allowing you to mix and match different monster sets.
- Skin: Applies a complete Layered set instead of customizing individual pieces.
You can also equip Weapon Pendants from the same menu to add a little extra flair to your weapons.
What’s interesting is that gacha Adventurers can also wear individual Layered Armor pieces. However, there’s a catch — any armor slots without a Layered piece will automatically use the default Adventurer set appearance. This means you can’t mix and match an Adventurer’s unique default get-up with regular Layered Armor.
