For today’s mobile game, having Bluetooth controller functionality is practically a must. While more often than not they support virtual joystick and buttons, some players might still find them inadequate replacements. Fingers could easily block the view, while pressing and swiping the touchscreen could feel finicky. No doubt that Hunters who’ve spent years hunting Rathians with controllers might feel awkward using them too. With that considered, one question pops up: Does TiMi Studio’s Monster Hunter Outlanders support Bluetooth controllers?
Can You Use Controllers for Monster Hunter Outlanders?

If you’re planning to play Monster Hunter Outlanders with a Bluetooth controller, there’s some bad news — at least for now. During the August Closed Beta 3, the game still does not officially support controllers. That means you’ll have to stick with virtual touchscreen controls for now.
This becomes apparent when you pair a Bluetooth controller with your device. We tested it by connecting a DualShock 4 to our Poco X7 Pro phone. Pressing almost all buttons does not register as input, and Monster Hunter Outlanders displays “Controller support is still in development” message. At best, we can only close the game by pressing the PlayStation button twice and bring out a non-working cursor by swiping the touchpad.
So, if your Xbox, DualShock, 8bitDo, or GameSir controller isn’t doing anything in-game, don’t worry. They aren’t broken — Monster Hunter Outlanders simply isn’t ready to support them just yet.
Interestingly, though, Monster Hunter Outlanders does seem to have some controller-related functionality prepared. The game’s folders contain a GamepadConfig.ini file, with its only value being EnableGamePad, which is set to 0 as the default. Unfortunately, changing the number does not produce any kind of result. Even after changing EnableGamePad to 1, Monster Hunter Outlanders still doesn’t recognize the Bluetooth controller as an actual gamepad.
Certainly, TiMi Studio will still make changes for the game’s full release, and controller support could be one of them. We will update this article if the developer has implemented the function.
