HoYoverse Reveals Nodusfall Trailer, and It Definitely Looks Like Genshin’s Answer to Monster Hunter

HoYoverse has finally pulled back the curtain on its secret fantasy project, and it seems some earlier Monster Hunter comparisons weren’t completely off the mark. Nodusfall‘s full teaser trailer was revealed during Gamescom Live 2026 with the Genshin Impact developer describing it as an ‘original co-op action game.’

Nodusfall‘s cinematic trailer doesn’t give away much story information so far, instead dropping plenty of cryptic lore. The world’s old divine order has collapsed, and wounds left by ancient conflict remain. We play as Weavers, ‘dying embers’ who have to stand as one to defeat mighty mythical beings to bring back order. From the sound of it, HoYoverse is ready to trade its typically colorful, anime-styled fantasy adventure for something considerably darker and much more realistic this time around.

Still, Nodusfall Gamescom’s trailer finally gave us a much clearer idea of what we’ll actually be doing. It showed up to four Weavers facing off against an electrically-charged gryphon and a massive fire-breathing dragon. But that’s not all, as it seems the dragon’s rider even drops down and fights on its own once his ride has been defeated. Host Geoff Keighley says these fights will demand ‘close coordination and sharp tactics,’ with multiple players working together to bring their enormous targets down.

That certainly explains why Monster Hunter comparisons, with a dash of Elden Ring, followed Nodusfall long before its official trailer reveal. Previously leaked development footage showed characters wielding Great Swords and Magical Bows against huge creatures. The game might also come with character builds, skill trees, and open-world exploration.

There’s still plenty HoYoverse isn’t telling us with this trailer, including when Nodusfall will launch. Or whether the game will be ditching mobile and focus on PC and consoles. But after waves of interesting rumors and leaks, at least we can finally stop wondering whether it’s called Nodusfall or The Weaver. Turns out, it was a bit of both.
