The news we were not expecting to receive this week was that Monster Hunter Wilds got Steam Deck verified. Normally, this would be a huge deal. Being able to play a Monster Hunter title on the go has always been great, which is a reason why many loved Rise when it launched on the Nintendo Switch. However, in the particular case of Wilds, players aren’t that happy, as having the Steam Deck verified badge doesn’t mean it will provide good performance. Furthermore, with so many technical issues, many wonder if the handheld platform will be able to run it at all.
Monster Hunter Wilds Gets Steam Deck Verified And Still Hits Around 30 FPS
Several people have shared on the game’s subreddit that it is now verified for Steam Deck, which is a huge deal for those wanting to experience Monster Hunter Wilds on a handheld console. However, given the many performance issues that have been plaguing this latest installment since launch, players have the right to be skeptical.
As soon as the news got out, many started doubting the game’s performance, and even calling out the badge, saying that it doesn’t mean anything if the game still runs poorly.
“That bad is a borderline scam,” one user said.
On the other hand, some other players have shared their experiences with the game, and it seems that it runs as expected.
“I’ve been playing it on my Steam Deck for the past week or two. With all settings as low as they can go, and FSR on Performance (not Ultra Performance), I get ~30 fps in all areas except the Windward Plains. The Windward Plains—especially during the Plenty—are noticeably worse, so I try to avoid them.“
As you can see, the game hitting 30 FPS is what many were expecting, given how the Steam Deck usually caps big AAA titles at that framerate, at least to provide a balanced experience. Still, many find this announcement a bit ironic since the PC version still has issues that keep affecting players to this day.
On the other hand, many believe that it is great that Capcom finally got the badge for Wilds, especially since the expansion is on its way. With Monster Hunter Wilds receiving a permanent discount and with its updates trying to fix a few lingering issues, it seems as if the studio was trying to bring in as many players as possible. And by the looks of it, it seems it is working, as player count has been oscillating between 20k and 14k, even on quiet days.
