Capcom Confirms Monster Hunter Wilds FPS Drops After Latest Steam Patch

Capcom has acknowledged a new PC performance issue in Monster Hunter Wilds, confirming that FPS drops may occur after the game’s latest patch on Steam. The issue is now listed on Capcom’s official Monster Hunter Wilds known-issues page as of August 12, 2026, making this more than another round of vague PC complaints.

That matters because Monster Hunter Wilds has spent much of its post-launch life trying to win back PC players after a rocky technical reputation. SteamDB currently lists the game at roughly 49% positive user reviews, with more than 327,000 reviews tracked, keeping it in Mixed territory on SteamDB’s rating snapshot. A fresh FPS problem after a patch is exactly the kind of issue that can reopen old wounds for players who were waiting for the Steam version to feel stable.

The latest complaints appear to have started surfacing shortly after an update earlier this month. One Steam discussion thread titled “Atrocious FPS drop after update” has drawn nearly 200 replies, with the original poster saying their game dropped from a constant 60 FPS to around 10 FPS after the update. Other players in the same thread reported similar drops, including one who said they went from 90–120 FPS before the patch to 45–60 FPS afterward, and another who said the game started normally before falling into the 10–20 FPS range.

Players Are Already Testing Their Own Fixes

The Steam thread has quickly turned into a troubleshooting exchange, with players trying file verification, shader-cache deletion, driver updates, DLSS changes, Frame Generation toggles, and full PC restarts. On page four of the discussion, one player said verifying game files and restarting their PC fixed the problem, while another reported that turning DLSS off, restarting, and turning it back on helped restore performance.

The community fixes are not consistent, though. Some players in the same thread said those DLSS and restart steps worked for them, while others said the suggested fixes did not solve the issue. One player specifically said they tried the DLSS-related workaround several times without success, and another reported that their game had been working normally with DLSS and Frame Generation before dropping to 30–40 FPS after the update.

That mixed response is important. This does not look like a single universal fix that every affected hunter can safely rely on. It looks more like the usual PC performance puzzle: different GPUs, drivers, upscaling settings, frame generation settings, cache files, and game-state quirks producing different outcomes for different players.

The issue also lands at a bad time for Capcom. Monster Hunter Wilds remains one of the company’s most important current games, but its PC version has been shadowed by performance complaints since launch. Capcom has already spent months pushing stability and performance updates, and every new Steam-side problem makes it harder to sell the idea that Wilds has fully moved past its technical troubles.

For players, the practical takeaway is simple: Capcom is aware that FPS drops can happen after the latest Steam patch, but there is no single confirmed public fix yet. Some players are reporting success after verifying files, clearing caches, restarting their PC, or toggling DLSS and Frame Generation, but others say those same steps do not work. Until Capcom releases a hotfix or a more detailed workaround, affected players may be stuck experimenting with the same temporary fixes being traded around Steam.

For Capcom, this is another test of how quickly it can respond to a player-impact issue that hits right at the heart of Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC reputation. The problem is not just that some players are losing frames. It is that, for a game still trying to rebuild trust on Steam, another patch-related FPS drop gives frustrated hunters a familiar reason to log off.
