Monster Hunter Wilds Datamine Suggests Switch 2 Port Targets Up to 1440p, 40FPS

With the announcement of the Ascendance expansion, Capcom also revealed that a Switch 2 port of Monster Hunter Wilds is in the works. So far, however, the company has kept its lips sealed about how it will actually run on Nintendo’s latest handheld console. Many Hunters, too, are skeptical, as the game’s performance was pretty abysmal during its whole first year. But fortunately, we might have found clues thanks to community effort.

A recent datamine shared on the MonsterHunterLeaks subreddit uncovered codes referencing ‘NSW2’ in Wilds‘ latest Steam 1.042.00.00 update. It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to assume that stands for Nintendo Switch 2. The codes seem to point to multiple display resolution targets, including 1080p, 1260p, and 1440p with a ‘DISPLAY_MODE_DOCK’ tag.

Meanwhile, another set of values lists 720p, 810p, and 864p, perhaps suggesting possible resolution during Handheld Mode. The latest Steam update also introduced additional dynamic resolution settings associated with 30FPS and 40FPS modes, including:

  • TARGET_40_LOW = 11,
  • TARGET_30_LOW_D = 12,
  • TARGET_30_LOW_900p = 13,

Those optimizations would make sense, considering the Switch 2 is less powerful than even the game’s minimum PC requirements.

Back in May last year, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto hinted the company was interested in bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to Nintendo’s platform. “The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in June 2025 at a price of 49,980 yen (tax included), and the response is better than we all had expected,” Tsujimoto said when talking about the hunting game at the time. After all, Monster Hunter Wilds sales have slowed down after reaching 10 million copies sold in its first month. Launching on the last available modern console might just be the second wind Capcom needs for the entry.

Of course, datamined code isn’t the same as an official announcement or specification. Things get changed or shuffled around during the development process and don’t always make it into the final release. Still, if these findings hold up, hunting Arkveld at up to 1440p docked and 40 FPS doesn’t sound nearly as far-fetched as it did a few months ago.
