Fans tuning into the MH Championship 2025 stream as part of the MH Festa 2025 were treated to two major reveals for Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 4. Director Yuya Tokuda confirmed that both Rathalos and Gogmazios are getting new and improved High Rank hunts, marking some of the toughest content yet.
The franchise’s mascot, Rathalos, is finally being promoted to 9★ difficulty, putting it on equal footing with other Apexes. As of now, only Arkveld, Lagiacrus, Mizutsune, Nu Udra, Uth Duna, Gore Magala, and Jin Dahaad have reached that elite tier of High Rank threats. Many old-school Hunters have been asking for Rathalos to finally join their pack, and their wish is coming true at the end of this year.
Unlike 9★ Blangonga, Ajarakan, or Guardian Anjanath, this version of Rathalos won’t be limited to an Event Quest. Instead, it will appear randomly as a roaming monster, meaning Hunters can encounter it naturally in the field and even save it as an Investigation Quests. Of course, it can show up along with other 9★ monsters as well, for those looking to farm Talismans. Capcom’s interpreter at MH Championship also hinted that Rathalos’ new attack pattern could shift depending on in-game seasons, though this may be a translation mix-up.

The second major reveal dropped a sneak peek on Gogmazios, the tar-coated Elder Dragon from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Its fight has been reimagined for Wilds, featuring a dual-element phase system where its weakness changes over time. It’ll be weak against Fire when covered in tar, and Dragon once the coating melts. Tokuda recommended Hunters to bring two different weapon elements to survive the encounter just like Omega and its Nerscylla Clone.
However, that’s not all. To help Hunters prepare for Gogmazios’ ‘huge attack power,’ Capcom is also reworking the Armor upgrade system. Tokuda teased plans to introduce Armor Augmentation, letting players raise their Armor defenses beyond current limits.
“Please try to save up a lot of Armor Spheres,” advised Tokuda, hinting at the difficulty spike Gogmazios will bring.
Monster Hunter Wilds TU4 is planned to be dropped sometime in December, along with a performance optimization improvements on PC. Between the roaming 9★ Rathalos and Gogmazios’ raid, TU4 definitely looks to push even seasoned hunters to their limits. Just in time for the Winter Festival of Accord.
