Lagiacrus, the thunderous Leviathan from Monster Hunter Tri, makes a shocking return in Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2. This aquatic brute slithers and launches devastating electric blasts to crush anyone who dares stand in its way. Its mastery of Thunderblight can leave even seasoned Hunters paralyzed. In this guide, we’ll cover essential strategies, loot drops, and the gear you can craft to survive the storm and come out on top.

Before you can have an audience with the King of the Seas, you need to reach certain prerequisites first:

  • You have to reach HR31.
  • You have completed the “A World Turned Upside Down” Main Mission.
  • You have completed the “Forest Doshaguma” Side Mission.

“Forest Doshaguma” is unlocked after you’ve finished the “Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns” Main Mission during Chapter 5. The quest basically teaches you how to capture a monster, so bring a Shock or Pitfall Trap and at least two Tranquilizer Bombs. Once that over, speak with Erik in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp and start “Erik’s Secret Request.”

Melee Weapon Strategy

Lagiacrus is one huge lizard, but do not underestimate its agility. If you’re out of reach, it’ll unleash a triple electric blast or close distance with a sliding or spinning drill attack. Its head is weak againts Fire-damage; Hammer and Hunting Horn should have a field day with it. All of Lagiacrus attacks can be blocked without the need of the Guard Up skill and can be Power Clashed. However, you will need to be extra careful once it’s enraged and its body is charged with electricity.

First of all, when Lagiacrus is enraged, it will attack twice; moves like the slam or spinning drill attack will have a follow up. Then, most of its moves will also come with additional electric blasts. Blocking them without a Guard armor skill could eat 2/3 of your stamina. With that in mind, always try to Perfect Guard them so they consume less stamina. Especially the charged electricity AOE attack which could easily kill you, get away as soon as Lagiacrus start to curl up.

Once it runs to Area 19, you will need to get it out of underwater by dealing enough damage. Bait it to falling debris, shoot it with Slinger ammo from a Sharp Barnacle, and use Clutch Claw to mount it. Keep in mind that after an electric shot, its mouth becomes a weak point while its back is weak after an electric charge. Otherwise, Lagiacrus will perform a huge electricized whirlpool that deal massive damage. Still, it can be easily avoided as long as you stay far away from the middle of the underwater area.

Ranged Weapon Strategy

Ranged hunters should have range advantage, but you still need to be careful as the same warnings apply. Always keep your eyes on lightning ball attacks. The slides and spinning attacks also are dangerous, as Lagiacrus can easily cover long distances quickly, particularly when it’s enraged and its body is electrified.

Fortunately, Lagiacrus is quite weak against all weapon types including Shot. Sticky Ammo Bowguns should also focus on its head to open huge window for damages.

Lagiacrus is available in normal and Tempered variant at High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds. Both variants have the same moveset, but if you find the need to farm its materials, we suggest chasing the Tempered ones. Defeating a Tempered monster might give you Hunter Symbol II and a few Artian Weapon Parts.

When looking for it, Lagiacrus can only be found in Scarlet Forest at any given time. You’ll usually find it in areas with lots of water such as Area 10, 12, 13, 15, and 19.
