Mizutsune Full Monster Guide (Strategies, Loot Table, Craftable Items) for Monster Hunter Wilds

Mizutsune, which debuted in Generations, was added to Monster Hunter Wilds with Title Update 1. The elegant Leviathan glides effortlessly across the battlefield, using its slippery bubbles to control space and keep hunters on their toes. Known for its fluid movements and deceptive attacks, Mizutsune can overwhelm unprepared Hunters with relentless pressure. This guide covers strategies, loot tables, and craftable gear to help you master the fight against this beautiful beast.

How to Unlock Mizutsune and Fight Strategy in Monster Hunter Wilds

Before you can face-off against the bubbly Leviathan though, you need to reach certain prerequisites first:

  • You have to reach HR21 .
  • You have completed the “Fishing: Life, in Microcosm” Side Mission.

The Side Mission is really easy. All you have to do is speak to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp and then catch a fish using a Fishing Rod. After both requirement has been fulfilled, talk to Kanya again and you can start hunting Mizutsune.

Melee Weapon Strategy

Mizutsune is an agile monster. Its length and habit of sliding around might make it hard for melee users to chase it. While the bubbles barely does damage to your health, Bubbleblight will make your character slip when running around.

Nevertheless, Mizutsune can be easily toppled by aiming at its head — even if you’re not using Hammer or Hunting Horn. Keep breaking its head and the Leviathan will fall on the ground often. If you see all color of its fur fades, it means it’s tired and the perfect moment for a counterattack. For Long Sword users aiming to cut its tail, you’ll need to break it first before it can be cut.

An enraged Mizutsune will become much dangerous, however, as it will perform new tail slap and body slam attacks. Its bubbles will also be imbued by blast effect that deals massive damage. Melee users will want to stay on the move and attack only when there’s a huge window of opportunity to strike back.

Fortunately, all of Mizutsune attacks can be blocked without the need of the Guard Up skill. You can even pop its bubbles by attacking them. However, the monster cannot be Power Clashed.

Ranged Weapon Strategy

While ranged hunters should have range advantage, be careful of the monster’s agility and length. Mizutsune often attacks by sliding and jumping around, it can also shoot a stream of water from its mouth. Make sure to take some space when it’s starting to curl up as it’s a sign the monster will perform a spinning attack.

While the bubbles barely does damage to your health, your mobility will be impeded when afflicted by Bubbleblight. When enraged though, a Mizutsune can shoot out blue flame blast bubbles which inflicts a huge damage. Always keep an eye on them! The monster is also highly resilient against Shot type attacks, making it tougher against Gunner weapons.

Mizutsune Weak Points and Elemental Weaknesses in Monster Hunter Wilds

Mizutsune is a pretty straightforward monster to fight; most weapons, elemental attacks, and status effects should work. Nevertheless, the monster can inflict Waterblight and Bubbleblight which will affect your mobility. For that reason, we’ve included a table so you can see which weapons to bring and which parts receive the most damage.

  • Recommended Elemental Attacks: Ice, Thunder, and Dragon.

Spawn Zones and Variants

Mizutsune is available in normal and Tempered variant at High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds. Both variants have the same moveset, but if you find the need to farm its materials, we suggest chasing the Tempered ones. Defeating a Tempered monster might give you Hunter Symbol II and a few Artian Weapon Parts.

When looking for it, Mizutsune can only be found in Scarlet Forest at any given time. You’ll usually find it in areas with lots of water such as Area 8, 12, 13, and 15.
