Chatacabra Full Monster Guide (Strategies, Loot Table, Craftable Items) for Monster Hunter Wild

0
By Julio La Pine on February 28, 2025 Guides, Monster Hunter Wilds

The first monster you’ll ever face in Monster Hunter Wilds is Chatacabra. While not the toughest of fights, this creature can still dish out a lot of damage to unprepared hunters. Even if it is the first creature you’ll encounter, there are many things worth getting from it, especially when jumping from Low to High Rank. In this guide, we’ve compiled all the information you need to face Chatacabra, including a strategy to hunt it, the materials it drops, its habitat, and more.

Chatacabra Strategy

Chatacabra is a somewhat fast monster that attacks with its arms and tongue, with the former doing more damage. As the first monster, it doesn’t have a lot of status effects you need to worry about, nor any crazy mechanics that will ruin your day. However, there are a few things to watch out for when facing Chatacabra. Below is the recommended strategy for melee and ranged hunters.

Melee Weapon Strategy

Chatacabra’s moves are predictable. It usually has a two/three hit combo with its arms and a spin attack where it gets its tongue out to hit everyone around it. These are the two moves you should watch out for.

When you engage Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds, aim for its forearms at all times. Whenever you see a wound open, perform a focused strike to break it. During the angered phase, Chatacabra will rub its forearms against the ground and collect ore. Once it does this, its attacks will do more damage. To stop this phase and leave Chatacabra open to attacks, destroy the ore it collects in its limbs. Once you do that, it will fall on the ground, and you’ll be able to hit it.

While Chatacabra’s tongue is another weak spot, we don’t recommend focusing too much on it, especially since melee hunters might have a harder time hitting it. As long as you hit its arms, the monster will fall down quickly.

Ranged Weapon Strategy

Ranged hunters might have an easier time, especially since hitting Chatacabra’s tongue might be easier. But if not, as long as you follow the above strategy, it should be fine.

Like melee hunters, focus on its forearms. Fortunately, slashing, blunt, and piercing damage works equally great, so there’s any weapon and ammo will do the trick here. Again, there’s no need for any elemental attacks or status effects, but if you have some spare ammo, especially in High Rank, bring it with you.

As a final tip for both types of hunters, Chatacabra has one move where it raises its arms slowly and then smashes them on the ground, doing a lot of damage. Due to the attack’s delay, parrying it for melee users might be hard. If you get the hang of it, you can perform a perfect guard and follow up with an attack. But if not, you should dodge away from the attack. It hits like a truck, especially in High-Rank hunts.

Weak Points and Elemental Weaknesses

As we already mentioned, Chatacabra doesn’t have any outstanding weaknesses you should target. All weapons, elemental attacks, and status effects should work. Still, we’ve included a table so you can see which weapons to bring, status effects to use, and which parts receive the most damage.

Spawn Zones and Variants

So far, we’ve seen Chatacabra in its normal variant and Tempered variant in Monster Hunter Wilds. Both variants have the same moveset, but if you want to prioritize hunting one, always go for the Tempered variant. Defeating a Tempered Chatacabra might give you a few Artian Weapon Parts, which are always welcome.

When looking for it, Chatacabra only spawns in Windward Plains. It can spawn at any time as the abovementioned variants. When it spawns, you’ll usually find it in the plains outside of the Windward Plain’s base camp or where its nest seems to be, which is next to the Fulgurite farm spot in sector 3.
