Out of all the creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds, Congalala is certainly unique in terms of its mechanics. Combining powerful melee attacks with elemental burps and farts (you read that right), Congala can create a living hell for many hunters who decide to face it. On top of that, other smaller Congalalas tend to join the fight as well, so it is pure chaos when facing this large creature. If you’re struggling to beat it or just want to see the rewards that await you after hunting it, we have a complete guide for Congalala here.
Congalala Strategy
Facing Congalala in Monster Hunter Wilds can be quite challenging due to the mix of elemental attacks it will throw at you. It can even inflict you with certain status effects that will make the fight more annoying. On top of everything, Congalala can also attack fast and even perform a devastating body slam on you that can one-shot you if you’re not careful. On top of that, some small monsters will also help Congalala, so you need to pay attention to those, too. As usual, we’ve prepared a strategy for melee and ranged hunters.
Melee Strategy
For once, melee hunters won’t have the easiest time with Congalala in Monster Hunter Wilds. While Congalala has many weak points, such as its head, tail, forelegs, and even its rear, hitting them will be hard due to the foul clods that this monster will summon. When fighting it, you should focus on all of these parts, but there’s a recommended order to hit them all.
Always start with the rear and its tail. Congalala will fart and burp a lot, but its farts are usually the worst issue, as they will affect melee hunters more than those who prefer ranged weapons. Attacking its rear and tail will do wonders, as Congalala will fart less. Another reason to focus on its tail, especially, is to prevent it from eating mushrooms. Throughout the fight, Congalala will dig for mushrooms, and once it eats them, its burps and farts will get different elements, such as poison and blastblight.
If you’re having a hard time reaching its rear and tail, you can focus on its forelegs and head. Doing damage to the former will bring it down constantly, allowing you to get many hits in. Its head, on the other hand, is a good area to focus on, especially because damaging this part will make Congalala burp fewer times.
Ranged Strategy
Ranged hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds should follow the same strategy as above but prioritize Congalala’s head first. Congalala’s farts are usually a small AoE around it, so they affect melee hunters the most. However, its burps have a longer range and even longer in High Rank hunts. The usual strategy is finding a spot to shoot its head, and whenever its belly swells, run away as it might shoot a cloud your way.
When it comes to elements, Fire and Ice are the best. Bring as much ammo as possible of those elements. If you only have materials for one element, Ice is much better. This will increase the damage you do to Congalala, thus ending the fight faster. Status effects are also good, and fortunately, Congalala is susceptible to most of them. So, bring whatever leftover ammo you have with status effects.
Weak Points and Elemental Weaknesses
Since this battle is all about endurance and item management, the latter being important as you’ll use a lot of Nulberries, Potions, and Deodorants, you can use the following elements during the fight to finish faster:
- Recommended Elemental Attack: Fire and Ice (the latter is better).

Spawn Zones and Variants
Congalala’s main habitat is the Scarlet Forest. Here, you can find it in its normal and Tempered variants. If you’re trying to farm it, always choose the Tempered form. Just remember that Tempered Congalala will have almost no wind-up in its attacks, and its burps and farts will be almost instant. You can also find it in Wyveria, but only in its Tempered form.
