How to Unlock The Material Retrieval Farm in Monster Hunter Wilds

0
By Sidharta F. Rasidi on March 3, 2025 Guides, Monster Hunter Wilds

Soaking in the Forbidden Lands’ environment while gathering can be a surprisingly relaxing experience if you have time to spare. However, not everyone has that luxury. Sometimes, you’ve been hunting non-stop and realize you’re running low on essentials like Honey and Godbug. In past Monster Hunter games, Farms allowed hunters to passively gather materials over time. But with Monster Hunter Wilds introducing many new mechanics, does the handy Farm system make a return?

When Does The Material Retrieval or Farm in Monster Hunter Wilds Unlock?

There is no Farm in Monster Hunter Wilds; instead, there’s something called the Material Retrieval system. Villagers from surrounding locales will help you gather items after you’ve dealt with their problems. Material Retrieval will be unlocked once you reach High Rank and complete the “Beware the Gypceros” Side Mission.

Each village can only farm specific items and the season will also affect how many items they can gather. The frequency at which they collect items is indicated by stars, which should be taken into consideration when assigning materials:

  • -: You’d have to be pretty lucky… (Very rare).
  • ★: You won’t get much (Rare).
  • ★★: Should be easy to get (Normal).
  • ★★★: It’ll be real easy to get (Plenty).

Gathered items will start to pile up as one in-game day has passed. Either speak to each Material Retriever in each village or Nata in front of your Camp. Farmed materials can only stack up to 16 slots before they’re full.

Some gatherers also like to wander around and won’t be available during specific times. For example, Murtabak will go inside during Nighttime and Sandtide Inclemency. Meanwhile, Sabar from Oilwell Basin won’t be able to procure items during Firespring.

Once you’ve reached high enough Hunter Rank and faced Tempered monsters, you can unlock Gathering Boost quests. These quests will appear at random in each locale, indicated by the “A settlement is having monster trouble!” warning in the World Map. Select the warning from the Environment Overview menu, complete it, and you’ll get a 3-in-game day long farming output bonus.

Before these Gathering Boost quests can show up though, you need to unlock them by finishing these side quests first:

  • Unlock Murtabak’s Gather Boost: “Continuing Conflict” Side Mission.
    • Hunt Tempered Doshaguma and Tempered Rathian.
  • Unlock Plumpeach’s Gather Boost: “Fur Damagings Are Dislikeworthy” Side Mission.
    • Hunt Tempered Lala Barina and Tempered Congalala.
  • Unlock Sabar’s Gather Boost: “Troublemakers” Side Mission.
    • Hunt Tempered Gravios and Tempered Ajarakan.
  • Unlock Apar’s Gather Boost: “Echoing from the Cliffs” Side Mission.
    • Hunt Tempered Hirabami and Tempered Blangonga.
  • Unlock Rysher’s Gather Boost: “The Struggle to Survive” Side Mission.
    • Hunt Tempered Xu Wu and Tempered Guardian Odogaron.
