How to Get and Farm Ancient Wyvern Coins in Monster Hunter Wilds

Aside from crafting materials, you can find trade items used to buy valuables from villagers. One such item in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Ancient Wyvern Coins. The Coins actually can show up randomly all over the in-game hunting areas or sold for 200 Zenny in a pinch. However, you might want to save them as they can be hard to come by and are mostly used for trading limited-quantity valuables. To help with that, we have found three best ways to get Ancient Wyvern Coins.

The Best Ways to Farm Ancient Wyvern Coins in Monster Hunter Wilds

1. Catching Curioshell Crabs for Ancient Wyvern Coins

Capturing a Curioshell Crab using the Capture Net will always reward you with an Ancient Wyvern Coin. This rare Endemic Life can randomly appear in all hunting maps during any season, except Wounded Hollow. Here are the known areas where it can spawn:

Hunting MapArea
Windward PlainsArea 4, 6, 7
Scarlet ForestArea 2, 6, 8
Oilwell BasinArea 18
Iceshard CliffsArea 6
Ruins of WyveriaArea 8

However, according to our observation, these two spots are the best places to find them:

  • Scarlet Forest: Start at Area 8 Underground Lake Pop-up Camp and look for a Crab near the fishing spot. Then cross the waters by diving past through to the other fishing spot; a Coin might spawn there.
    • A Curioshell Crab also spawn near the Area 6 Flowering Rocks Pop-up Camp’s exit. Afterward, try Then, dive in the nearby fishing spot for an underwater Ancient Wyvern Coin.
  • Ruins of Wyveria: Start at Area 8 Gap in Rubble Pop-up Camp, a Crab might spawn close to the Camp. Then head to Area 6 and look for Gloamgrass Buds under the thicket of branches as a Coin could appear here too.

You can quickly reset their spawn by going back and forth between Camps or Resting. Successfully capturing a Curioshell Crab for the first time will reward you with the ‘A Prize Held High’ Achievement.

2. Catching Gastronome Tunas Could Net You Ancient Wyvern Coins

Likewise, angling for a Gastronome Tuna could net you Ancient Wyvern Coins. The giant fish can be caught in Scarlet Forest Area 17 and 12 at any time and in any weather. But we found that it’s much easier to spot one in Area 17 during Plenty or Downpour Inclemency. Especially if there are water splashes that indicate a gathering of fish.

However, that’s not all that you can get when you catch a Gastronome Tuna. Catching the fish will reward you with one of these random items:

  • Ancient Wyvern Coin.
  • Sushifish Scale.
  • Whetfish Scale.
  • Chaliceweed.
  • Royal Sea Pot.
  • Sparkly Treasure.
  • Fine Scarlet Amber.
  • Truffle Du Conga.

The “A-fish-ionado” Achievement is also unlocked if you fished 30 Gastronome Tunas or other whopper fish. You should be able to get a handful of Coins if you aim to get the Achievement by fishing tunas.

3. Helping Rove in Iceshard Cliffs and You Can Get Ancient Wyvern Coins in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rove, the philosophical Lynian, can be found strolling about in random areas of Iceshard Cliffs. Occasionally, you might also end up encountering him close to be a Nerscylla’s dinner in Area 5. Rescue this Bound Lynian using your Slinger, and he’ll reward you with an item.

Like Gastronome Tuna, though, Rove won’t always drop Ancient Wyvern Coins when rescued. He’ll hand out random trade items, including a Goldenscale Vase or a Coin, before going on his way.
