Capcom Bans Monster Hunter Wilds Modders, But Not for Ruining the Multiplayer Experience

Modders, beware, as online Hunters have reported that Capcom is bringing down the banhammer. Affected Monster Hunter Wilds players have even shown proof that their account received permanent bans for violating Capcom’s terms of service. Their confessions confirmed that this wasn’t just a mere rumor. However, although many assumed these bans were due to cheating in multiplayer lobbies, the real reason is something much simpler.

User Appropriate-Tap-4577 shared the fact on Reddit, showing photos and videos from Bilibili, China’s YouTube, claiming that their accounts have been permanently suspended. The poster insisted that one banned player from Vancouver wrote that random players might’ve reported them for playing a modded quest in a multiplayer lobby.

However, upon closer inspection, it turns out that Capcom isn’t banning players for altering character skins, damage values, or boosting rewards. Instead, they’re going after people who use mods to unlock paid DLC content for free.

Multiplayer modders are starting to get perma banned

“I just went through the original post on Bilibili. This guy got banned because he used mods to unlock all the paid DLC contents,” clarified SempeRRR2k in the same thread.

“I’ve also messaged him directly on Bilibili for more details. He provided the screenshot of his modlist indicating that he didn’t mod any items or quests that will affect multiplayer gameplay (dmg/reward tweak, etc.),” they added. “meaning that it’s impossible for him to be noticed or reported by randoms. He stated that it’s specifically the ‘dlc unlocker’ mod (enabled through Fluffy Mod Manager) got him banned.”

Many Monster Hunter Wilds players are celebrating this decision, arguing that modders who unlocked paid content are thieves.

“Good. Get banned,” wrote RadioFree_Rod.

“If you want to do that in single-player, fine. But don’t bring that to multiplayer!” added jster31.

However, others are worried about how far this crackdown will go. After all, some players admit they’re using mods to bypass Edit Voucher fees. Meanwhile, others are afraid that simple quality-of-life mods could get flagged next.

“Oh boy, i wonder about edit vouchers, alot of ppl are using mods to bypass that,” admitted YCaramello.

“So I use mod to by pass the character changing voucher because I think is stupid I need to pay for that in a single player game will i be effected?” asked X-Dragon2255

“If my buff glow removal mod gets me banned I’ll cry,” added LiftedRetina.

For now, Capcom seems focused on giving bans to Monster Hunter Wilds modders from unlocking premium DLCs rather than other types of mods. Still, with some players using mods to bypass paid features like Edit Vouchers, it’s unclear whether Capcom will eventually crack down on those as well. We suggest just taking the free one-time Voucher from the Store if you really need to completely tweak your Hunter and Felyne partner‘s look.
