Where to Get Speartuna Fin in Monster Hunter Wilds

Speartuna Fin is a rare material used to craft and upgrade a special ice-themed weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, as one can expect from its name, it is only obtainable through one way: fishing! If you’ve been eyeing the crafting materials but still cannot land on one, do not worry. Our guide will tell you everything you need to know about catching Speartuna and getting the fin.

Speartuna Fin is obtained by fishing the large, rare Speartuna fish that can only be found in Areas 12, 13, and 17 of the Scarlet Forest. For the best chance of finding one, head out during the Morning or Daytime in Fallow weather. Alternatively, it — along with other giant ‘whopper’ fish — can also appear in the Daytime during Downpour Inclemency. The fish will only bite if you’re using Tuff Joint Bait and then quickly reel in your line.

We suggest setting up the Area 17 Pop-up Camp, making it easy to reset its spawn if you need to farm Speartuna Fin. When you’re fishing, watch the water for splashes; they mean various fish are gathering and Speartunas are more likely to appear.

Nevertheless, catching whoppers like a Speartuna is no simple job. When they bite, they’ll pull left and right. Match their movement using your analog stick on a controller or A/D keyboard keys to avoid snapping your line. If they try to swim into rocks or debris, quickly pull the opposite way to avoid losing them.

When the Speartuna jumps out of the water, hold R2/RT and push up on your analog stick. This slams your rod back in and prevents it from escaping. Speartunas should tire quickly; reel in your line only when the fish calms down.

Fishing Speartuna for its fin in Monster Hunter Wilds can take trial and error. To make things easier, equip the Outdoorsman Skill, found on Gajau Legs Alpha or a Level 1 Decoration. A Ghillie Mantle can help you conceal yourself if a wandering Uth Duna enters the areas during Downpour. If you consider using it, slot in Tool Specialist to reduce your Mantle’s cooldown timer.

Catching 30 Speartunas and other whoppers will reward you with the ‘A-fish-ionado’ Achievement.
