Where to Get Hunter Symbol I, II, and III in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rising through Hunter Ranks means facing creatures stronger than ever before. As you progress, you eventually need to craft better gear using Hunter Symbols to defend yourself against Tempered monsters. Funny enough, the Hunter Symbol items in Monster Hunter Wilds are obtained from hunting Tempered monsters in the first place. However, not all Tempered monsters drop the same Symbols; so which one should you hunt?

Tempered monsters are battle-hardened monsters with higher HP and damage that will start appearing in High Rank. You will first encounter them during “Chapter 4: Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns.” The last ★7 and ★8 tiers of Tempered monster are unlocked after defeating an Arkveld in “Awaking From a Dream” quest.

Below is a list of Tempered monsters and their respective ranks:

  • Tempered Rank ★5: Balahara, Chatacabra, Congalala, Gypceros, Lala Barina, Nerscylla, Quematrice, Rathian, Rompopolo, Yian Kut-Ku.
  • Tempered Rank ★6: Ajarakan, Blangonga, Doshaguma, Gravios, Guardian Doshaguma, Guardian Ebony Odogaron, Guardian Fulgur Anjanath, Guardian Rathalos, Hirabami, Xu Wu.
  • Tempered Rank ★7: Gore Magala, Jin Dahaad, Nu Udra, Rey Dau, Uth Duna.
  • Tempered Rank ★8: Arkveld.

We suggest completing multi-monster quests as they seem to yield more Hunter Symbols as their rewards. If the quest features monsters from different tiers, you can receive multiple Hunter Symbols in one run. For example, a quest targeting both Tempered Rathian and Tempered Rathalos can drop Hunter Symbol I and II simultaneously.

To maximize farming efficiency, save multi-monster Tempered quests from the World Map into Investigations whenever possible. To do this:

  1. Highlight the hunting area.
  2. Press Square (PlayStation) / X (Xbox) / G key (PC) to open the “Environment Overview” menu.
  3. Select the quest you want to save > “Create Quest” > “Save as Investigation.”

You can save up to 50 Investigations at a time. Each Investigation can be played three times, consuming one attempt per quest completion, regardless of success or failure. However, you can run the same quest four times if you begin a Field Survey after saving it as an Investigation instead.

Nevertheless, multi-monster quests might not always be available on the World Map. When that happens, there are Optional Quests in Monster Hunter Wilds that can reward you with Hunter Symbols:
