The 5 Most Annoying Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

0
By Julio La Pine on March 24, 2025 Features, Gaming, Monster Hunter Wilds, PC, PlayStation, Xbox

Monster Hunter, as a whole, has no shortage of epic yet annoying fights. While some of us have grown accustomed to certain creatures, a few others still stress us due to how complicated they are to fight or just because they have mechanics that shouldn’t exist in the first place. Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t an exception when it comes to annoying monsters. For that reason, I’ve put together a list of the five monsters (at launch only) that are some of the most annoying to face.

5. Congalala

You knew this one would be one of the first, didn’t you? Let’s face it: no one wants to fight a monkey-like monster that constantly farts on your face. Also, farts are what made this fight so annoying in the first place. For starters, new players won’t have a clue about what’s going on. Farts and burps carry different status effects, and newcomers might not know what to do. However, a High Rank Congalala will be even more annoying, as it will bring almost every status effect in Monster Hunter Wilds. Still, this monster works like a rite of passage to teach players the ropes of certain mechanics, so let’s call this a blessing in disguise.

4. Hirabami

Hirabami, also known as the bane of Greatsword users, is yet another monster that we don’t like facing that often. For most weapons, especially ranged ones, this one isn’t too challenging to beat. You can just stay far away and bring it down with a few shots. Melee users might also have an easier time, especially if they have a fast-attacking weapon. However, specific weapons will suffer against this monster. It has many erratic moves; it hovers throughout the whole fight and will attack so fast that it won’t let you pull off a charged move. Its armor is cool, though.

3. Guardian Fulgur Anjanath

While it is a fan favorite, we can all agree that its Guardian Fulgur variant isn’t that fun to fight. If you have a few people with you or any of the OP support NPCs, then it might not be that bad. But as a solo player, it isn’t that fun. What makes this version of Anjanath so annoying is its heavy-hitting movements buffed with the good old guardian elemental attacks. Plus, it is hard for melee users to land a proper hit that does damage during the early stages, so this fight can become longer for certain players. However, farming this creature is worth solely for its set bonuses and weapons.

2. Gravios

As a Sword and Shield user, I have nightmares about Gravios. Yes, I know, “Use the shield,” everyone says. And yes, it works. But by the love of all Wyverians, this fight is one of the longest and most tiring. Now, I know many will claim it is a “skill issue,” and there are many tactics you can use to bring the monster down. While true, it doesn’t take away the fight that this encounter is challenging for those who focus on slash and pierce damage. Once you beat some of its plates off, however, everything becomes much easier. Still, it is one fight that I try to avoid as much as possible.

1. Yian Kut-Ku

Oddly enough, Yian Kut-Ku is the most annoying monster in Monster Hunter Wilds, and I will die on that hill. As the introduction to High Rank, this one really brings the most frustrating moves in the game. It can charge at you erratically while spitting fire. It also has several pecking moves that bring your HP down quickly. And if that wasn’t enough, whenever it shoots fireballs from afar, it does so in strange patterns, which makes dodging them quite difficult. I’d like to say something cool about this monster, but I have PTSD just when looking at it. Luckily, I don’t farm it as often as other creatures.

In truth, all fights in Monster Hunter Wilds are great, even the annoying ones. While I might complain about some of them, I’ve had a blast with some, and they’ve helped me hone my skills. Still, there are a few monsters I above, like the plague, and I will continue to do so until I get a proper build capable of bringing Yian Kut-Ku down with a few hits. Now, all that remains is to see if Capcom will add new or returning monsters that might take the crown away from sometimes frustrating fights.
